Heroin Treatment Admission Statistics

Our Heroin Addiction Treatment admission figures are gathered from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

The SAMHSA admissions data about drug rehab and drug treatment facilities does not represent total individual admissions, and it does not represent admissions to all treatment centers in the state. "Total admissions" represents all admissions including the same person being admitted more than once during the calendar year. The statistics are totaled from facilities that are supported by government funding which does not include all treatment facilities in the state. Visit the SAMHSA web site for more information.

Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA)

We also present heroin trafficking, seizures and arrests data from the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA). Each state page presents an overview of the state's illicit heroin drug situation.

The DEA's heroin and related drug information includes details about heroin smuggling cartels, money laundering from domestic and international heroin sales, drug shipment seizures and arrests of traffickers, and operations of the DEA's special task force.

The DEA's Mobile and Regional special enforcement teams cooperate with state and local law enforcement. They were formed in 1995 as a response to the escalating problems of violent drug crimes across the nation.
