Study Reveals Sex, Drugs
and…More Sex?
A study released earlier this
week from the Kaiser Family Foundation regarding teen
attitudes and behavior toward sex showed that drugs and
alcohol contribute to unplanned and unsafe sexual practices.
Specifically, the report stated one in five sexually active
young people engage in unprotected sex while intoxicated. It
is no secret that unprotected sex and the impaired state of
mind brought about by drug and alcohol use cause unwanted
teen pregnancy and the spread of sexually transmitted
diseases.
Immoral behavior caused by drug
use reaches far beyond promiscuity. According to Luke Catton,
president of the drug rehabilitation and education program
Narconon Arrowhead, “We work with addicts from all over
the country and one commonality is that most of these people
have created seriously unwanted conditions in all areas of
their lives because of their drug use. True rehabilitation
requires not just ‘clean time’ or counseling, but
a teaching of life skills and an understanding of ethics,
morals, personal values and integrity.”
Catton, a former addict and
graduate of the Narconon program several years ago, says he
can relate to the study from the Kaiser
Foundation.
“In the last ten years
I’ve seen a lot of young people ruin their lives due to
risky sexual practices by contracting diseases, breaking up
marriages and having children without any support system in
place.”
A common myth among both
adolescents and adults is that certain drugs can enhance
sexual feelings and performance. The fact is that drugs
actually dull the senses, even sexual sensations, as they are
masked, altered and deadened from the chemicals.
L. Ron Hubbard’s book
Clear Body, Clear Mind is a New York Times
bestseller about the effective purification program. In part
one of the book he wrote about observing a “drug
personality,” which is artificial and changes the
attitude from the individual’s original personality to
one secretly harboring hostilities and hatreds he does not
permit to show on the surface. While this may not hold true
in all cases, it does establish a link between drugs and
increasing difficulties with crime, production and the modern
breakdown of social and industrial culture.
Dexterity, ability and alertness
are the main things that prevent getting into painful
situations and a primary target of these vanish with drugs.
So drugs set you up to get into situations that are truly
disastrous and keep you that way. One has a choice between
being essentially dead with drugs or alive without them.
Drugs rob life of the sensations and joys that are the only
reasons for living.
Mr. Hubbard’s research in
the field of detoxification and drug rehabilitation is the
basis for the Narconon program, which is one of the most
successful programs in operation and continues to grow
rapidly with groups working in 35 countries around the
world.
